Compact and works reasonably well; needs bringing into 21st century

I can't say that I'd shout about this one from the rooftops, but so far it has served me well for small cuts.

I have little space and can't accommodate a large mitre saw (much as I'd like one), so I needed a compact saw for small jobs. And for small accurate cuts, it does what it says on the tin. The quality of the cuts are good and the angles are accurate. But it feels a bit like I'm using something from the 70s, rather than 2017.

One point to note if you're considering it: the width of the material that you can cut is reduced significantly if you are cutting at a 45deg angle. There's a table in the user guide (which Axminster links to in the details). E.g. for material 20mm thick, the width is reduced to 18mm max at 45 deg (20mm if it's a tube/pipe). Something to bear in mind if you're buying this for a specific job.

Points removed for:
- Covered in oil when it arrived, which took a bit of cleaning up so as not to mark work. This is not normally a concern for metals, but for painted wood it can be an issue.
- Makes a lot of noise.
- Sprays debris all around -- up to 1-2 metres. Haven't found a way to avoid this, so I take it outside.
- I fixed it to some wood with non-slip material underneath. Otherwise, the whole thing tends to wander a bit.
- Vice and positioning controls are stiff/non-ergonomic (and dirty/black/oily!).

On the good side:
- Accurate;
- Easy to use;
- Does what it says (but read the manual for limitations on size when cutting angles);
- Very compact footprint.

I'm reasonably happy with it and plan to keep it.

Reliable Little Work Horse

This was the first bench tool I bought out of Uni. One of my employers had one that had lasted him and we found no fault in it. I bought my own and it's never let me down. I use it to cut box, T section and Tube aluminium mainly as well as flat lengths of ali and wood. Adjusting the angle is easy and acurate and locks in position tightly, it also clamps your material in place. The guard protects your fingers too without getting in the way of what you're doing. I have mine screwed to a piece of wood and hung on the wall when it's not in use so it's easy to just plug in and cut. I can't fault this product. It will cut up to 25mm box section comfortably. Mine is now 6 years old and as good as the day I bought it.
