In Detail

If you have made some pens using our acrylic and polyester blanks, you will be interested to learn that we can now supply a range of polyester project kit blanks of larger dimensions than the pen blanks. The size of these blanks is 114 x 35mm which gives you more choice in the way you can use the material. For instance, you could use the material for turning larger projects such as bottle stoppers, light pulls, pendants and knobs or by cutting the blank lengthwise into four pieces, you will have four pen blanks at your disposal. We recommend the use of wet and dry abrasives for finishing this product followed by burnishing cream. Let your imagination run wild!

Lovely finish, disappointing 'spot'

Being my first time working with anything other than wood, I was surprised by how messy it was!
I didn't experience any chipping, and found it a pleasure to work with. However, whilst turning the body of a perfume atomiser, I came across a flaw in the make-up of the colours in the blank. So, an area that should have been glittery silver, just had a white patch. Consequently, I had to turn the body somewhat smaller than I would have liked in order to remove the flaw. That said, once I'd worked through the grades using turners' mesh, then onto wet touch pads, the finish was excellent.

good product

I used this material recently to make a knob for a clock winder. I achieved a finish like glass using wet and dry through 5 grades finishing with metal polish. Initial turning with standard sharp scraper tools.

Excellent material when worked correctly

This product has had 2 bad reviews, which is probably down to incorrect turning and finishing.
In my opinion this material has excellent results if it is turned lightly with sharp tools and sanded WET.
If your tools are dull and/or you're heavy handed, it's not for you.
