In Detail

Sjöbergs 10 Year Guarantee

Sjobergs Elite cabinetmaker benches are designed and built by experienced Swedish craftsmen. Constructed in European beech; the top is 85mm thick with a 110mm apron, ready treated with a premium quality enriching finishing oil. The specially developed vices provide enormous clamping power across their 600mm (23.1/2") width, as well as providing amazing clamping speed, accuracy and smoothness. A double row of 25mm (1") round dogs work from both vices and across the full worktop area of 1,805 x 600mm. (Overall bench dimensions 1,945 x 740mm). The vices have an opening capacity of 145mm (5.3/4"). Supplied with top, trestle and four unbreakable round steel bench dogs which can also be used in the trestle legs. Please note: Available as bench only or complete with storage module SM04.

Sjobergs benches are kiln dried to 8% moisture content. If your workshop is not a humidity controlled environment and can exceed 75% air humidity Axminster recommends sealing the bench with 2 or 3 coats of finishing oil on the top, underside and dog holes. This treatment should be maintained from time to time.

Don’t underestimate the wood growth

I bought this fully expecting the wood to grow somewhat in my workshop as it took on moisture. I applied several layers of a good quality outdoor finishing oil in the hope it would help. What a waste of time. The bench is ace, however the wood it is made from simply not suitable. Wood growth is huge. Expect to have to machine doors and drawers to (re)fit, I now have a 10mm foul between the main doors which was a 4mm gap when first assembled. The door fronts also warp badly, you’ll just have to put up with this. All in all I am happy with the bench as the design is so good and solid but even buying and expecting some issues I am left disappointed with the quality. The wood used needs to change. sjobergs listen to your customers. Your wood choice sucks.

Let down by poor stability

I bought this for my new fullyninsulated workshop, tiled roof etc. But this bench and storage module is all finished in an oil finish which does absolutely nothing to stop kiln dried draws, doors and vices going from nicely fitted to all jammed or not closing at all. The cupboard doors have grown 4 - 6mm each and are bowed, all the draws foul or don't close at all and even one of the vices is jamming up. Pity these people don't invest in a lacquer shop instead of tins of outdoor furniture oil. I've had to plane everything down to get things to work. All this might be okay if you use it in your front room though..

Fantastically engineered stable bench

Despite the cost, this bench is truly a joy to own and to use. It's rock-solid, easy to put together, just the right size, and looks more like a piece of furniture than a workbench - the quality is that good. Yes, it's stupidly priced, but you really do get what you pay for, and I highly recommend this.

Wish I bought one earlier

Just purchased one of these, After 25 years I finally managed to set up my home workshop around 18months ago. For all the best intentions I never got round to building myself the really decent bench I promised myself, this has been a breath of fresh air to the workshop, my only regret not buying it 18 months ago...

This bench is just made to perfection and incredibly sturdy. Great addition to any workshop.
