‘Always willing to provide the
knowledge and know how...’

The Axminster Skill Centre consists of four purpose-built workshops, fitted out with an extensive range of tools and machinery, which are regularly updated with the latest equipment. A full extraction system is also installed for your safety and comfort while you are with us.

Courses are enthusiastically led by our highly skilled and experienced tutors, offering you a wealth of knowledge. Their skill specialities encompass woodturning, routing, woodcarving, engineering and woodworking - the core themes of our courses - although they can each turn their hand to almost any craft where wood is involved. You can be sure of an inspiring and entertaining experience when you attend any of our courses.

Windsor Chair

A learning centre for all abilities

The Skill Centre offers a wide range of courses with more to be added in the future. We always welcome feedback from students and your suggestions are used extensively in the development of new courses.

The purpose of the Skill Centre is to provide a learning centre for anyone, regardless of experience, who has the aspiration to develop their knowledge and skills in the field of woodworking or its associated crafts. We’re proud to offer over 30 courses from woodturning to engineering and everything in between!

Engineering Course

A brief history...

Axminster Tools & Machinery has been providing courses for over twenty years. Many of our students have gone on to develop their craft, often returning again to refresh or build on their skills. Students appreciate the knowledge our tutors provide, along with the tools and equipment, and how this helps them to develop and extend their own craftsmanship.

Our woodturning courses started in the former company offices above our original shop premises here in Axminster. Over the next few years, demand for courses continued to grow, forcing a number of different changes of venue. In 2010, the Axminster Skill Centre moved for the final time to a suite of four workshops on the main Axminster site at Millwey Industrial Estate.
