Turning Tuesdays

This is your chance to see and talk about everything and anything woodturning, on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month between 10am and 4pm.

A member of the team will be available to talk turning, demonstrate and help with any queries or questions as well as giving you the chance to get hands on and have a go.

Whether you're a novice or experienced carver or simply interested in starting a new hobby, why not come along to our Carving Club? These free informal sessions provide an opportunity to try new tools and learn new techniques with helpful advice and guidance from other members and from the store team.

We meet every second Thursday between 1pm and 4pm and all materials and tools are provided. Plus there's free tea and coffee! We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Chris Fisher, also known as the Blind Woodturner since he lost his sight in 2008, will be in-store covering lathes, chucks, jaws and turning tools.

You will be inspired by Chris as he shares his passion for woodturning. Chris constantly challenges himself, exceeding all expectations and demonstrating how seemingly insurmountable obstacles can be overcome through tenacity and self-belief.

Join us for a demonstration not to be missed as Chris puts his unique spin on the craft of woodturning.

Do you have an interest in Woodturning? Then come along to one our Tuesday Turners sessions with Les Alexander and Malcolm Cleaver. The group meet every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month and between them, they have a wide range of experience and expertise.
This week - one of the groups main demonstrators, Les, will be showing you how to cut threads on the lathe - all ability levels will be met with a welcoming smile.

High Wycombe Store - UJK Technology Dovetail Jig With Lydia Spracklen

Our in-store expert will be demonstrating the various features and benefits of UJK Technology Dovetail Jig, The Jig can be used to cut half blind dovetails (for drawer construction), precise comb or finger joints (in up to 28mm thick material) and can cut through dovetails (in material up to 19mm). Come to store and experience how simple this jig is to use whilst still producing professional looking joints every time.

High-Wycombe Store - 'Beat The Boredom' Easter Workshop - Scroll Saw Bunny

Join us in store for the first of two ‘Take Home’ Easter 'Beat the Boredom' workshops. Our store teams will help your young, budding crafters create their own Easter Bunnies, using a scroll saw, sandpaper and pyrography.

The second of our ‘Take Home’ Easter 'Beat the Boredom' workshop focuses on pyrography, with our young crafters testing their creative skills by decorating an Easter Egg - with guidance and assistance from our friendly store teams.

High Wycombe Store - Miniature Furniture Model Making With John Macaulay

John Macaulay is a 1/12 scale Miniature Furniture maker. Using a range of Proxxon machines he produces intricate furniture, which have the joinery features you would expect to see on a full-scale piece, such as fielded panels, mortice and tenon. John is a master of his craft and his work speaks for itself, last year he was invited to display at the Kensington Dolls House Festival. He is currently working on a scaled replica of a Charles Rennie Mackintosh washstand with stained glass splashback.

This is a fantastic chance to see some examples of John's work, as he demonstrates the range of Proxxon Machinery. He will also be available to answer questions and help you with any projects of your own.

High Wycombe Store - Sanding - In Pursuit Of The Perfect Finish

Skilful sanding remains the key to achieving an attractive and tactile finish to your project - bringing our the best out of the natural features of the timber. From hand sanding to the latest power sanding machines, the technology keeps moving on, bringing improvements to abrasives, dust extraction and ergonomics. To help keep you up to date, our stores will be hosting a national sanding demonstration on Saturday 27th April.

We’ll also be introducing a new range of Axminster Trade Wax products - providing a choice specially developed, high quality protective and decorative finishes.

At the demonstration, our store teams will be taking the opportunity to demonstrate the Fuji PaintWIZ Pro handheld spray system - another way to achieve a variety of easy-to-apply creative finishes.

Topography is the study of the shape and features of land surfaces. During this demonstration, Andre will be using a range of Arbortech tools to create some beautiful Topographic plywood designs. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in relief work to get an overview of the process and tools required. Come along anytime and see Andrew in action.
