Turning Tuesdays

Turning Tuesdays

This is your chance to see and talk about everything and anything woodturning, on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month between 10am and 4pm.

A member of the team will be available to talk turning, demonstrate and help with any queries or questions as well as giving you the chance to get hands on and have a go.

Carving Club

Carving Club

Whether you're a novice or experienced carver or simply interested in starting a new hobby, why not come along to our Carving Club? These free informal sessions provide an opportunity to try new tools and learn new techniques with helpful advice and guidance from other members and from the store team.

We meet every second Thursday between 1pm and 4pm and all materials and tools are provided. Plus there's free tea and coffee! We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Turn Your Hand To New Skills - Every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month experienced woodturners meet in-store to offer free guided sessions. Any level of experience will be welcomed by the group's friendly members.

This week - one of the groups main demonstrators, Malcolm will be making a Three-Cornered Bowl from a cube blank.

High Wycombe Store 'Beat The Boredom' Summer Workshop - 3D Scroll Saw Bird

Scroll sawing provides a great way to produce a fun, interesting take-home project in less than an hour. During our ‘Beat the Boredom’ Scroll Saw sessions, our store team will help young creators cut out and sand down the shapes required to make a 3D slot-together bird. Scroll sawing is a test of hand-to-eye coordination which is challenging yet absorbing - and will open young minds to further creative possibilities. Where time permits, we’ll show how pyrography could be used to add detail to the bird and suggest special paints available in store to finish the project at home. 

*Maximum of two children per session, ages 7-14, all children must be registered to participate. Please register your interest through Eventbrite. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times while in the store. All tools and materials will be provided by Axminster store. Photographs will be taken during the workshop, please advise the tutor if you do not wish your child to be included with any future marketing.

We invite you to join us for this national store demonstration, as we fine-tune two of our tool chest favourites - the hand plane and the chisel - and give you the chance to win a Rider Sharpening Station worth £87.96.* At the demonstration, our trained staff will guide you through the simple steps to ensure these trusted tools deliver precise performance in your hands, enhancing traditional woodworking experience. We’ll look at plane selection, flattening the sole and squaring the mouth of the plane; sharpening the plane iron, and truing up the frog and cap iron. We’ll also be Introducing a range of chisels and their applications, demonstrating general care and maintenance along with hand sharpening and powered wet wheel sharpening techniques. High Wycombe Store - Colwin Way Woodturning

Internationally recognised woodturner and Axminster Skill Centre tutor, Colwin Way, will be in store demonstrating a variety of turning, chucking and sharpening methods. His schedule will include the ‘Taming of the Skew’ looking at the safe use of skew chisels and the benefits of wet (green) wood bowl versus dry woodturning. Colwin will also share his suggestions for sanding and finishing and looking at a mixture of advanced turning projects. Come along to this free event at any time during the day and enjoy Colwin’s informative and entertaining demonstrations.

The Leigh Jig is a complex kit, capable of producing excellent dovetails. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on and test the jig for yourself whilst being guided by an expert.
