Join us for the first in our ‘Back To Basics’ series. In March, we have our first in the series with all our stores focusing on Hammers. Our in-store experts will provide a detailed demonstration of all popular hammer styles - describing their unique features and use in a variety of applications. We’ll look at the materials used in the manufacture of heads and handles and consider characteristics such as weight, balance, grip and striking action. Don’t miss this chance to get ‘hands on’ with a wide range of some of the world’s best-known hammer brands - as we go back to basics with these very familiar yet seldom explained hand tools.
In April, we feature the second of our Back to Basics series as we take a closer look at one of the oldest and most trusted tools in the woodworker’s chest - the hand saw. Still a favourite of skilled trade professionals, hand saws provide precision, speed and convenience which often rivals the performance of power saws. Throughout April, we invite you to rediscover the versatility of hand saws at special workstations in our stores and to attend any of our national demonstrations on Saturday 28th, hosted by our in-store experts. Please feel free to drop into this demonstration at any time between 10am - 4pm - we’ll be serving up bite-size Back to Basics info throughout the day!

This month our guest speaker will be Paul Warburton, owner and founder of Ryfields Gym in Orford. Paul is well known in the Warrington area and uses some unconventional methods to reach his target audience. The evening will explore the concept of 'guerrilla marketing', an advertising strategy that promotes products or services in an unconventional way on a small budget. He will share some of his top tips on how to implement this strategy and get your business known within the local community.
This is a free event in the Warrington store from 6pm - tea, coffee and cake will be provided. So come along and take advantage of Paul’s expert advice, you may even find yourself sitting by your next customer or mentor.

Phil Irons is well known on both the UK and international woodturning scene.
He will be spending the day in store demonstrating tools from Woodcut, with whom he has a long association. His main focus will be on the Bowlsaver MAX3 - a tool which will enable you to get an increased output from a piece of wood. Phil will also be using Tru-Grind sharpening jigs and Pro-Forme hollowing tools.
By his own admission, Phil derives most pleasure and satisfaction from turning hollow forms. He has created some beautiful vases and incredible one-off masterpieces.
Phil also enjoys teaching and offers a number of courses at his workshop in Welford-on-Avon, Warwickshire. Courses range from beginners’ hobby level classes to the more advanced master classes on the lathe.
