Turning Tuesdays

This is your chance to see and talk about everything and anything woodturning, on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month between 10am and 4pm.

A member of the team will be available to talk turning, demonstrate and help with any queries or questions as well as giving you the chance to get hands on and have a go.

Whether you're a novice or experienced carver or simply interested in starting a new hobby, why not come along to our Carving Club? These free informal sessions provide an opportunity to try new tools and learn new techniques with helpful advice and guidance from other members and from the store team.

We meet every second Thursday between 1pm and 4pm and all materials and tools are provided. Plus there's free tea and coffee! We look forward to welcoming you soon.

High Wycombe Store - UJK Parf Guide System Mk II With Andre May

The second of three demonstrations, over consecutive Saturdays, looking at the many benefits and features of innovative UJK Technology. Since the launch of the original UJK Technology Parf Guide System, we have been working hard to develop the existing concept to deliver better engineering practice. As a joint venture with Peter Parfitt, the Mk II version offers you even more control. The new and improved jig system allows you to create a custom-made benchtop or portable cutting board in less than 30 minutes, whenever and wherever the need arises. An invaluable tool for professional trades and home workshops, the updated Parf Mk II Guide System guarantees perfect 45° and 90° cuts every time when used with a set of Parf Super Dogs and a track saw and guide rail. Come along and see Andre May demonstrate the more user-friendly benefits of the Mk2.

Embark On Your Woodturning Journey - Every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month experienced woodturners meet in-store to offer free guided sessions. Any level of experience will be welcomed by the group's friendly members.

This week - one of the groups main demonstrators, Malcolm will be demonstrating various colouring techniques, including some airbrushing.

High Wycombe Store - Craft Pen Turning Lathes, Kits and Blanks

In this national store demonstration, we’ll introduce novices and more experienced woodturners to the lathes, tools and techniques you’ll need to begin turning your own pens. With a choice of many wood and resin blanks, pen kits and finishes now available in store, the creative possibilities are almost endless.

During the demonstration, we’ll cover blank preparation and mounting, tool selection and use, design considerations, shaping and finishing. Our store specialist will share sufficient practical guidance to enable you to make a start on pen turning almost immediately.

Remember, if you buy any Craft lathe, we’ll provide you with a free three-hour introduction to woodturning with one of our team specialists. For this demonstration, we recommend joining us at the start and staying through to the close to make sure you get the full benefit of each stage of instruction.

Our in-store demonstrator Naveed Ahktar will be showing how the UJK Technology Pocket Hole Jigs make the art of joinery accessible to everyone. With a small amount of woodworking knowledge you can achieve accurate, strong, hidden joints with a professional finish, quickly and simply. This is a great opportunity to see why the UJK system is a must for every workshop.

High Wycombe - Children's Halloween Workshop

Free Children's Workshop

Be afraid. Be very afraid - your little monsters might soon be wanting you to help them with some Halloween projects - never fear, our Axminster stores are ready to help with a special Halloween workshop. Using our Craft Scroll saws, our frighteningly friendly staff will help your creepy creatives make their own take-home Halloween decoration. They'll be using one of our 'Terrifying Templates' including bats, ghosts, witches hats and cats - and they'll have a chance to use pyrography to add scary detail.

This is a FREE event with no tricks, so it’ll be all treat!

*Maximum of two children per adult, aged 8-14, all children must be registered to participate. Please register your interest through Eventbrite. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times while in the store. All tools and materials will be provided by Axminster store. Photographs will be taken during the workshop, please advise the tutor if you do not wish your child to be included within any future marketing

High Wycombe - Woodturning Boxes With Jason Breach

Free Woodturning Demonstration

Our very own Skill Centre tutor Jason Breach will be in-store showing how to turn boxes on the lathe.

The techniques involved, from a simple turned wooden box through to more advanced shapes, will be explained and demonstrated to provide a solid foundation for you to continue the ideas on your own lathe.

The day will cover the selection of materials which are suitable for your wooden box, how best to cut and prepare these, different ways of mounting them on the lathe and how to get the best from a potentially expensive resource. You will also be refreshed on safe and effective use of a range of different tools, to cut and shape the workpiece into the desired form and finally how to sand and polish to a professional standard. During the day Jason would be happy to demosntrate other projects including how to turn bowls, bottle stoppers and Epoxy resin.

This is a unique opportunity to learn from an experienced and skilled tutor, absolutely FREE!
