In April, we feature the second of our Back to Basics series as we take a closer look at one of the oldest and most trusted tools in the woodworker’s chest - the hand saw. Still a favourite of skilled trade professionals, hand saws provide precision, speed and convenience which often rivals the performance of power saws. Throughout April, we invite you to rediscover the versatility of hand saws at special workstations in our stores and to attend any of our national demonstrations on Saturday 28th, hosted by our in-store experts. Please feel free to drop into this demonstration at any time between 10am - 4pm - we’ll be serving up bite-size Back to Basics info throughout the day!
Phil Irons is well known on both the UK and international woodturning scene.
He will be spending the day in store demonstrating tools from Woodcut, with whom he has a long association. His main focus will be on the Bowlsaver MAX3 - a tool which will enable you to get an increased output from a piece of wood. Phil will also be using Tru-Grind sharpening jigs and Pro-Forme hollowing tools.
By his own admission, Phil derives most pleasure and satisfaction from turning hollow forms. He has created some beautiful vases and incredible one-off masterpieces.
Phil also enjoys teaching and offers a number of courses at his workshop in Welford-on-Avon, Warwickshire. Courses range from beginners’ hobby level classes to the more advanced master classes on the lathe.
Pop in store anytime between 10-4pm and enjoy our FREE event!
We are pleased to announce that we will be joined in store by Gary Rance, one of the UK's fastest and most accurate production turners.
Gary has been turning since the age of 16 and has a big following within the woodturning community. He has demonstrated at exhibitions and woodturning clubs throughout the UK, Belgium, France, Ireland and Norway, and at the Utah Symposium in Provo, Salt Lake City. Gary has also produced tools for the woodturner, notably his round skew chisels, light-pull drive, box scraper and his Easy bead tool. He was the winner of Axminster’s Strictly Woodturning in 2012.
This is a great opportunity to see Gary in action. For all woodturners, this is a day not to be missed.
