Sittingbourne Store - Souber DBB Mortice Lock Fitting Jig With Colin Niblet

The Souber lock jig is fast becoming the preferred method for many tradespeople when fitting mortice locks. With its self-centering clamp and milling operation, it is definitely a must-have tool when fitting doors. It makes the job quick and simple, with a door lock being able to be fitted in less than 5 minutes!

Can this jig really achieve this in such a short time frame? If in doubt, or merely interested to learn more, come along and have a go yourself with our in-store demonstrator Colin Niblet.

If you’re a woodworker, you’re making dust. And if you’re using machines, you’re making plenty of it. Whether a hobbyist or a trade workshop owner, health and safety is an important consideration - and air filtration is often overlooked in our PPE and equipment choices.

Throughout July, our stores will display and demonstrate a range of solutions which will help protect against dust, fibres and fumes in your working environment - from low-cost disposable masks to sophisticated respirators and permanent air filtration systems. Sittingbourne Store - Woodturning With Andrew Hall - The Hat Man

Please join us in store as we welcome Andrew Hall aka the “Hat Man” who will be demonstrating on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 August. This will be the perfect opportunity to see Andrew in action and find out how he creates his fantastic hats.

Andrew first became interested in woodturning at the age of 14 when his woodwork teacher tutored a small group of keen students in woodworking, furniture making and woodturning. On leaving school and after a five-year apprenticeship, Andrew’s teaching career began with the opportunity to teach apprentices at three colleges across the north east of England. After teaching carpentry and joinery for 20 years, he decided to rekindle his love of woodturning and has now been turning professionally for 12 years.

Axminster welcomes you into the store to sharpen up your skills (and tools). Our in-store expert and Skill Centre tutor Holie Wise will be demonstrating techniques that will enable you to achieve excellent results when sharpening your tools with the Tormek sharpening system. Any professional or amateur needing a versatile, reliable and repeatable sharpening system, the T-8 should be at the top of your list.

Come along to store with your own tools and Hollie will show you how to achieve a sharp edge. With plenty of expert tips on offer aswell this will be an unmissable demonstration.

Sittingbourne Store - Woodturning With Richard Findley

Please join us in store as we welcome Richard Findley who will be wowing us with his woodturning skills. This will be a fantastic opportunity to see Richard in action and observe how he creates his masterpieces.

Richard is a production turner based in Leicestershire. His background is in woodworking, coming from a long line of professional woodworkers. He enjoys variety in his work, undertaking commissions for one-off prototypes through to large production runs, turning for furniture makers, restorers, architects, designers and joiners.

Richard’s work is mainly based in the UK, but his growing reputation for making the highest quality turned work has earned him commissions for items that have gone to the US, Canada and Australia. Richard is a well known and popular demonstrator, having written for Woodturning magazine since 2010 and having demonstrated all over the UK, Ireland and at AAW Symposiums in the USA.

Designed by Peter Parfitt, the UJK Technology Parf Guide System (PGS) is a joint development with Axminster Tools & Machinery and is entirely manufactured in Axminster, Devon under the UJK Technology brand name.

Come along and see Colin demonstrating the versatile UJK Technology parf guide system to create precise track saw cutting station. Having a customised worktop gives you so many options and Colin will show you how to create portable cutting boards in less than 30 minutes!

Sittingbourne Store - Bandsaw Setup - From Blade Change To Using The Bandsaw Buddy

Colin Niblett, our in-store demonstrator, will show you how to set up your bandsaw correctly using the Axminster Trade Series SBW4300. He will also demonstrate how to get the most out of the machine including use of the innovative UJK Technology Bandsaw Buddy. Plus he will show you the quality of cut that can be achieved with an Axminster Premium M42 bandsaw blade - it has to be seen to be believed!

As the bandsaw is probably the most useful and versatile machine in the workshop, this demonstration is a must for all those who have just acquired or recently changed their bandsaw.

I have always been interested in woodwork from a very young age and was always fascinated in using tools to make projects around the home. In 14 years I have trained several young people in the use of machines and hand tools in order to make furniture from native hardwoods.

The business then changed for the next 6 years by venturing into antique restoration. I started working for Axminster in 2006 and has been involved with selling and demonstrating machines and hand tools in many of the shops around the country.
