Skilful sanding remains the key to achieving an attractive and tactile finish to your project - bringing the best out of the natural features of the timber. From hand sanding to the latest power sanding machines, the technology keeps moving on, bringing improvements to abrasives, dust extraction and ergonomics. To help keep you up to date, our stores will be hosting a national sanding demonstration on Saturday 27th April.
See you there!
We welcome back local professional woodturner and member of the AWGB, Jason Smith for another inspirational demonstration.
"There is no other feeling like felling an unwanted tree, and using that wood to produce artwork from my mind"
Jason specialises in wood texturing and colouring which he'll be showcasing along with spiral tools, gilt creams, liming wax, spirit dyes, acrylic paints, paint application techniques and water-soluble dyes.
Woodworkers of any ability looking for advice or techniques on how to introduce variation to their own projects would benefit immensely from this demonstration.
Our very own Skill Centre tutor Jason Breach will be in-store showing how to turn boxes on the lathe.
The techniques involved, from a simple turned wooden box through to more advanced shapes, will be explained and demonstrated to provide a solid foundation for you to continue the ideas on your own lathe.
The day will cover the selection of materials which are suitable for your wooden box, how best to cut and prepare these materials, different ways of mounting these on the lathe and how to get the best from a potentially expensive resource. You will also be refreshed on safe and effective use of a range of different tools, to cut and shape the workpiece into the desired form and finally how to sand and polish to a professional standard.
This is a unique opportunity to learn from an experienced and skilled tutor - for FREE!
