Project Days For Budding Woodworkers
Looking for something to do with the kids this summer? Every Wednesday in August, 10am-12 noon and 1pm-3pm, children* can learn how to make a fun useful item using a few simple tools and some pre-cut wooden components - all free of charge!

The fourth in our Beat the Boredom series, on 22nd August, is on Bee Homes and
Insect Houses. The session will start with an overview of the craft and will include instructions on how to use the tools safely, then using pre-cut components you'll build your own bee and bug house. Your creations are yours to keep, so come along and create a buzz in your kids and the garden this summer!

Spaces are strictly limited, please register through Eventbrite as soon as possible to avoid disappointment and speak to your nearest store for more details.

A few good machines immediately increase the capacity and creative potential of your workshop and our stores are always ready to demonstrate a wide range of our Axminster machines - from table saws and bandsaws to planer thicknessers and morticers.

The exciting news is that in August we’ll be introducing several new Axminster Trade machines - with specifications and features for even greater performance and convenience. Make sure you come along to your nearest store to take a closer look and if you can’t make it through the week, don’t miss our national Axminster Trade machine demonstrations on Friday 24th from 2pm to closing time and Saturday 25th from 10am-4pm. Warrington Store - Pen Turning With Shaunie Buckley

Pen turning is always one of our favourite demonstrations at the Warrington store. Our in store expert Shaunie Buckley will be producing a wide variety of pens on the AT1628 trade lathe using the Evolution Series Compression Pen Mandrel.

Shaunies demonstration will give you helpful hints an tips, using wood and acrylic blanks, on set up, turning itself and finishes. Come along anytime throughout the day, whether you are just getting started or want help to improve your skills.

Warrington Store - Woodturning With Tracy Owen

Top UK woodturner, Tracy Owen, is back in store to wow us with his woodturning skills.

Tracy has won many awards at national shows for his innovative turning over the last 12 years or so. Having established himself as one of the few woodturning professionals to derive his sole livelihood from woodturning, Tracy specialises in green (or wet) woodturning of bowls and hollow forms to produce unique one-off pieces. He likes to use green wood as, when the wood is drying, it moves and adds character to the piece. Tracy also likes to add texture to his work which he achieves by sandblasting, carving, chain sawing and colouring.

For his demonstration, Tracy will be using the Axminster Trade Series AT1628VS lathe, focusing on bowls and hollowing. Tracy is on the Register of Professional Turners and has also written articles for Woodturning magazine.

Are you wanting to get your fence secure for the winter months ahead? Come and join us in-store where Dan will show you how to create bespoke professional fence panels for your garden. He will go through the correct setup of your mitre saw so that you can get accurate cuts and then, using our range of Axminster Air Nailers / Staplers, he will show you which selection of nails and staples you will need.

Well known woodturner, Steve Heeley, will be in store to show you how to get the best results when woodturning and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Steve will complete a number of projects on the day, demonstrating on the Axminster Trade Series AT1628VS lathe using Axminster chucks.

The bandsaw is often described as the most useful machine in the workshop. Using our Trade SBW3501B Bandsaw Phill will explain, in a practical demonstration, the setup and maintenance of this most versatile of machines. He will also go through blade types, choosing the right accessories and how to get the best results from your machine.

Warrington Store - Chris Fisher - The Blind Woodturner

Join us in store as we welcome our resident woodturner Chris Fisher, aka the Blind Woodturner. Chris will be demonstrating on the Axminster Hobby Series AH-1218VS lathe.

After going completely blind in 2008, Chris took up woodturning and is continually pushing himself to try new projects on his lathe. Chris hopes his demonstration will be both inspiring and entertaining and demonstrate his philosophy that you should never give up, despite what life may throw at you.

Chris now has a popular YouTube channel and says that one of the reasons he set this up was to inspire and motivate others showing that, no matter what happens in life, it is still possible to achieve your full potential. Chris says: “It is important not only to tell people but to show them that tenacity, self-belief and passion can help overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. I love to share my passion for woodturning. It is a wonderful art form and craft, and I put a unique spin on it!”

Warrington Store - The UJK Technology Dovetail Jig With Paul Otter

Our in-store expert Paul Otter will be demonstrating the various features and benefits of UJK Technology Dovetail Jig, The Jig can be used to cut half blind dovetails (for drawer construction), precise comb or finger joints (in up to 28mm thick material) and can cut through dovetails (in material up to 19mm).

Come to store and experience how simple this jig is to use whilst still producing professional looking joints every time.

We have a lively day planned with three of the North's best professional woodturners Russell Gibbs, Adam Evans and Ray Jones all in store!

The trio will produce a variety of artwork from bowls, hollow forms and pens. Being a very diverse group that is always willing to share knowledge and skills, we think it will be impossible to leave without feeling inspired.

Warrington Store - Carving With The British Stickmakers Guild

We are pleased to welcome Harry Hartshorne and Tom Fitzpatrick from the British Stickmakers Guild who will be in store demonstrating the carving skills required to create these fantastic works of art. They will be on hand to offer advice share their knowledge. Whether you are a novice or have been carving for years this will be an inspirational day not to be missed!

Harry Hartshorne: Committee Member of the British Stickmakers Guild and editor of their quarterly magazine "Stickmaker." Harry mainly works with wood and specialise in making sticks with birds heads as the handle. Harry is a previous winner of the British and UK 'Novice' National Stickmaking Championship.

Tom Fitzpatrick: A member of the British Stickmakers Guild, Tom is a master stick maker who works both in rams horn and wood. He has judged a number of competitions for the BSG and was a previous winner of the British and UK 'Novice' National Stickmaking Championship.

Using the Antex Fire Writer Pyrography Kit our in-store Pyrography specialist, Dave Jones, will show you how to creatively decorate your Christmas craft items and decorations.

Dave will also cover hints and tips on how to get the best out of the unit and will demonstrate woodburning techniques to give that special, personal finish to all your projects.
