In Detail

The Top Trim Attachment enables the section to be presented to the blade at an angle of 45° to the vertical rather than the horizontal (see picture); this allows mitres to be trimmed on curved, hollow or difficult to hold mouldings. The maximum section width that can be used with the top trim is 65mm and there is only one angle option, 45°.

Mitre Trimmer accessory

The price and actual quality of this unit were attractive. However, the unit when offered to the main unit is reluctant to retain with any confidence it's (essential) true angle. The back of the accessory has an additional plate to act as a guide for the stock relative to the cutter (so far so good), but because the plate does not entirely mimic the cast iron 'wing' against which it has to face, (it leaves a gap) the accessory moves out of line as the clamp is tightened. I threw away the guide (well it's a bit of aluminium so it will have it's uses) and let the accessory bear direct on the 'wing' A further mod that works even better is to drill and tap the casting (the 'wing') and a similar clearance hole in the accessory. Screw it direct to the plate, which is 100% secure and the wing acts as a guide! (Simple version of the mod is still dispense with guide plate and clamp the accessory to the 'wing'). When you do this it works great. It hasn't been tried out in anger before going on the market I think.
