Not fit for purpose

I bought this to set my router table up before cutting but I found it was consistently 0.3mm out. Out of the box the bottom edge of the depth rule needed cleaning up as there was some plastic left from the mould. It went back (another shop) and I bought the Axminster all metal depth gauge. It's based on a vernier calliper. It's brilliant and 100% accurate.

Do not rely on the printed rule's accuracy. E.g. mine (the second unit replaced by Axminster) shows 11mm when set digitally at 10mm. Go beyond this setting and the error obviously becomes incrementally higher and therefore of little use as a visual reference source. Only by checking the depth with my own steel rule - after making a digital setting - can I be satisfied it is giving me the required depth. In theory Trend came up with a convenient router bit measuring device but I think the engineering and materials are well below par from this organisation.

A bit dissapointed when I opened the package, this meter looks cheap, easy bendable plastic, which by the way expand in warm weather .
The idea is good, but for a measuring instrument aluminium would be more stable.
Dear Ax - people, why didn't You specify, that this is a plastic product, that would have saved me the 20 pounds

Trend depth gauge

I feel the quality of the product is very good. Instructions as to the battery compartment could have been made clear. You do not have to take the unit apart to insert same. All in all a very handy tool when setting up machines. Easy to read scale.

Simple, accurate little device.

I bought this gauge at the same time as I started to use a router table, and it has proved to be extremely useful in setting up the router cutters, both vertically and with respect to the fence. I like being able to hold it in contact with the cutter as I wind the router higher, so I know exactly when to stop - shame it doesn't automatically fall away for the opposite procedure. Thought I'd spend a little more on a digital model to reduce the chance of making an error when reading measurement - lazy I know but worth it to reduce the number of cock ups I seem prone to make :-)
