In Detail

The UJK Technology Pocket Hole Jig Kit speeds up the process of making a strong joint. The two mini jigs link together so you can drill twin pocket holes into wider boards without repositioning the jig. A dovetail recess securely links the two jigs together ensuring both holes are parallel. A magnetic insert on the top of the jig helps hold it in place when clamping it to the workpiece. The kit includes a stepped drill, long reach 1/4" hex Torx driver, a box of 100 fine thread (3.8 x 30mm) pocket hole screws and a stop collar with hex key. Use this jig kit to join timber from 13 to 100mm thick and not just butt joints as this is an excellent way to reinforce a mitre joint and more.

Simple and quality

Pocket hole fixing is the simplest form of woodwork. Drill a hole at a angle and screw. If it’s thicker position jig away from edge and set the depth screw. I use this to strengthen my kitchen cabinets. It produces the cleaner pocket hole I’ve seen. Of course the customer wont see them but I know their there. The one I used before was black which wasn’t great.

I concur

Andrea is right in that this is a mistake for a first jig set. This isn't a good kit. It works, after some trial and error, but it seems a bit pointless at the end of the day. If you have tried pocket joints before then it's likely you would opt for something a bit more sophisticated because this is pretty basic. Bit of a spares package to be honest, and that's being kind.

I was going to order the bigger kit, but it seems to have been on back-order forever, so I ordered this. Waste of money, and poor value. UJK products are better than this. Dump it.

I wouldn't buy this again. It's a lot for a couple of not very good quality drill guides ( the magnet stayed stuck to the clamp ), a fancy drill and a poor quality star bit.

Does the job; recommend only as a second/portable jig

I bought this as my first pocket-hole jig set. Mistake. I should have gone for a full-sized jig. Because:

(1) These are so hard to clamp well: Rounded edges are nice-looking, but they actually make the job of clamping difficult as there's less surface to clamp. The plastic is a bit too slippery too. Magnets help if you're using two jigs together, but singly, they just swivel.

(2) There are no markings/stops to help you adjust the jig. So you're pretty much on your own, with trial and error. There are instructions, but they don't help much in this regard. There are 3 variables: distance from edge; depth of hole; and length of screw. Without guidance, it's pretty much impossible to get this right.

(3) The set only has one size of screw, which is limiting and made my first attempts very frustrating. It took me a while to realise that I simply couldn't make the join I wanted to because the screws were too short.

That said, it's well-built and does the job. But I'd only recommend it as a portable adjunct if you already have a bench jig. I don't recommend if it's your first pocket-hole jig.
