Sometimes when plugging holes, no matter how carefully drilled, the holes finish up slightly oversize for the plug, especially in soft woods. These cabinet maker's snug plug cutters overcome this by cutting a slightly tapered plug. The first 3mm of the plug is the diameter stated whilst the remaining length is then flared out at an angle of 3°. Just tap the plug into place until you meet resistance then cut off the excess. Also, unlike regular plug cutters which have two cutting flutes, these plug cutters have four, giving a much cleaner cut and a smooth-sided plug which fits perfectly every time and is practically invisible. For best results use in a drill press or power drill stand.

Veritas. Say no more...I use mine in a drill press. Once in a plunge router. I have cut plugs from Black Locust too - Cherry and Oak with these. They are the best I have used to date. Keep the speed slow and constant. These will last a lifetime.

Get a set!!I have just cut 100 oak plugs from scraps that were destined for the fire. The cutters cut with ease and precision leaving you with a very precise and uniform plug. I used mine in a drill press which makes it oh so easy. Set the correct drill speed and don't plunge to quickly. Avoid overheating the cutting tips and they will stay sharp for ages. After cutting 100 oak plugs my 10mm plug cutter is still factory sharp.
