This is an entirely new concept. A bench plane customised to fit the work you do and the way you do it. You choose the frog angle, blade material, and the size and style of the knob and tote. Veritas machine every plane and part in their own workshop. The care and attention to detail during manufacture ensures your completed plane functions as a unified whole, no matter which parts you choose.
There are five bodies to choose from: two smoothers, two jacks and a jointer. Each plane body comes with a lever cap, Norris style adjuster and a cap iron. The choice of blade, frog, tote and knob is entirely down to your personal preference or needs.
All the plane bodies are fully stress-relieved ductile cast iron. Precision machining of the soles ensures they are flat and square to the sides. The large side wings keep the plane stable when used on a shooting board. Two tapped holes in either side allow the mounting of an optional side fence.
For easy and accurate blade setting the stainless-steel, Norris-style combined feed and lateral adjustment mechanism could not be better. Two set screws register the blade in the throat. A movable toe plate allows quick mouth adjustments. Open mouth for heavier cuts, closed mouth for fine shavings and minimum tear-out. A stop screw in the throat retains mouth settings and prevents accidental contact with the blade. The cap iron registers on and attaches to a low-profile blade carrier attached to the blade. This allows you to easily restore the cap iron to the same position after blade sharpening.
