In Detail

These are precision machined with the traditional 1:6 and 1:8 angles, and long legs to ensure accurate registration. A saddle enables you to mark a continuous line around a corner. Both straight and angled lines can be scribed simultaneously, ensuring alignment. The inside corner is relieved to ensure flush seating even on saw whiskers. Made from anodised aluminium, these are light and durable.

For the avoidance of errors - get these!

Hand-cut dovetails feature heavily in my making, and I would not be without these markers. Apart from the legendary Veritas quality, they have two vital features that many competitors do not.
Firstly, the 'saddle' design means I can mark both the end grain and face in one movement without having to change tools - and that eliminates one source of tiny but significant errors. Secondly, they are not 'reversible' - there is a separate template for each of the standard angles, 1 in 6 and 1 in 8. Many competitors sell reversible templates with a 1 in 6 slope on one side and a 1 in 8 on the other. If I used one of those, I know it would only be a matter of time before I cut a lop-sided tail! With a dedicated template for each slope, I can ensure that I only have on the bench the one that I need and that eliminates th possibility of picking up the wrong one and ending up having to scrap work and start again. Having to buy two rather than one is a TINY price to pay for that assurance.
When I was taking commissions for hand-crafted boxes, the hand-cut dovetails were a feature clients particularly liked - and would gladly pay for. In that context, speed and precision are both important, and these markers have played a huge part in that. I wouldn't be without them - and I wouldn't use any other, either
