In Detail

The saw's spine is permanently moulded onto the back of the blade. It imparts just the right amount of weight to the blade to carry the saw effortlessly into the cut. The polished hardwood handle is shaped to fit the hand comfortably and not just to look pretty, which it also does. In fact the handle is very reminiscent of the rear tote on a bench plane and this theme is carried on in the steel rod and brass nut used to attach the handle onto the spine. A mortice and tenon joint between handle and back ensures a good solid and secure fixing between the two parts. The blade is Japanese high carbon steel, 230mm (9") long by 40mm (1.1/2") deep, with razor sharp teeth filed with a 14° rake angle, the overall weight is 360g (12.7oz).

Not so unconventional

I don't do a lot of hand sawing but there is always a need for a small and accurate saw. I have had several tenon and back saws in the past but this is far superior, it cuts and tracks cleanly and the work is done by the weight of the saw alone ensuring accurate results The appearance is a little unconventional but what matter is that it does a good job. I have not tried other premium saws but cannot see how you could get much better than this.

Excellent small saw

This really is an excellent saw for a much wider range of work than its small size would suggest. It crosscut just fine and tracks nicely but is easy to reset the saw kerf if you wander off.

Quality Saw

This is a great saw, and the usual excellent Veritas quality. The saw sits very comfortably in your hand (and I have quite large paws) and is easy to control the cut, just let the weight of the saw take it through the wood, to produce a lovely clean cut. Happy days!

Great tool. Not for big hands.

Quick and clean cuts, it really has sped up my dovetailing. I was using a Bacho tenon saw beforehand, such a difference. My only point to add is that, if you have large hands, this handle might feel a bit snug. I feel like poping mine off to open it up a little, I've only got size 9 hands, so I'm not exactly weilding diner plates at the saw!

Buy the fine-tooth version

I found the teeth on this saw far too aggressive on trying to start the cut. Therefore, I purchased the fine-tooth version and this greatly improved my ability to initiate the cut
