In Detail

This 100mm steel Whitehill limited spindle moulder block is a true multi-function unit. Able to be used as a shear cut rebate head, a scribing head or as a moulding block using standard 40, 50 or 55mm x 4mm knives. The knife locating pins are spaced at 24mm and are 6mm in diameter. The rebate cutters are set at 3° for a gentle shear cut action. This block is fitted with four sided TCT spur cutters on the top edge to give perfectly square tenons. The block is designed to enable shaped scribing cutters or moulding knives to be fitted without removing the block from the machine. A reversible washer allows the block to be mounted with a conventional nut, or where the spindle has a tapped hole, flush mounting with the use of a countersunk head screw. The flush mounting of the cutter block will allow material to be passed over the top of the cutter head when deep rebating, profiling tenons etc. Three sizes of countersunk head screw are available, 12mm, 14mm and 16mm. This Combihead is suitable for all small to medium sized spindle moulders. The block is supplied with rebating cutters and square scribing knives. Available in 30mm or 1.1/4" versions.

Great !

I just received my Whitehill Combihead Scribe and Rebate Block from Axminster and here are few remarks about it :
+ It's quite expensive with respect to other alloy multi-function scribe and rebate head that we can find everywhere for less than 100€.
+ It's steel so it's quite heavy (1,8kg) even for a small/medium diameter rebate block (96mm).
+ In cheaper alloy multi-function scribe and rebate head, the rebate knives (1.5mm thickness) use the same "slots" than the profile knives (4mm thickness) so you have to use a "small piece" in the back of the rebate knives in order to set them in place. This can lead to difficulties or error concerning the parallelism of the knives wrt to the rotation axe.
+ In the Axminster / Whitehill combihead, the rebate knives and the profil knives use two dedicated slots and therefore, for the rebate knives, you have only one piece in the front of the rebate knives and the setting is much more easy and precise.
+ The more important point : it is not said in the tool description, but it's a SLIGHT SHEAR REBATE HEAD. It is not a full shear rebate head as we can see from other brands, but i's not a straight one : there is about 3mm of shift between the low and the high end of the rebate knives (40mm length).
+ There is only two TCT spur cutters on the upper side of the block, no TCT spur cutters on the lower side.
+ It will takes only 4mm thickness and 40 or 50mm length profil knives.
+ It won't takes 5,5mm thickness and 50mm length profil knives.
+ It comes in a cardbox but it's a nice one, so it's OK wrt to wood or CMT-like plastic box.

In fact, it's exactly what I was looking for : a recessed, shear-cut, high precision, multifunction block. So, if it's what you are looking for, go whiteout any hesitations.
