In Detail

With Wiha BiCut pliers, you get two tools in one. These pliers are a combination of a standard diagonal cutter and a high-leverage cutter. Switching between one and the other is a simple matter of pushing a button on the cutting head. Pushing the button to change into the high-leverage mode effectively doubles the cutting power, reducing effort by 50%. For cutting softer materials such as copper wire, use the standard mode. For hard, such as cables, nails, screws, bolts, wire cable, spring wire, chains, etc. switch to high-leverage. The pliers are drop forged, high quality C70 steel, hardened to 64 HRC. These VDE pliers are suitable for all work on or around electrical components up to 1,000V AC, each individually tested at 10,000V AC. VDE and GS tested, DIN ISO 5749, manufactured according to IEC 60900:2004.

Wiha VDE Pliers

What does VDE mean?

VDE is a standard to ensure screwdrivers and other hand tools are safe to use when working with electricity. VDE takes its acronym from the German company Verband der Elektrotechnik, who are responsible for testing and certifying tools and appliances.

Wiha Screwdriver

VDE has become the recognised standard within the building trade throughout Europe. Seeing the VDE trademark on a pair of pliers or a screwdriver gives the user the assurance that it’s safe to use with electricity. Wherever you see the VDE mark you will often find a voltage limit, this indicates what voltage levels the tool is safe to work with.

Jig kit

Not just any tool can bear the VDE certification mark. All VDE rated tools are put through very rigorous testing to ensure the quality, construction, safety and even the ergonomics meet with the protective requirements of the applicable EC Directive.
